Closet Shelving Cut List Calculator

Divide a reach-in or built-in closet into equal bays, then see the uprights, fixed decks, and adjustable shelves as a kerf-aware sheet layout instead of an area-only estimate.

Planning estimate: The equal-bay model uses one more full-height upright than the number of bays, plus a top, bottom, and the selected loose shelves in each bay. Scribe fillers, bases, backs, hanging rails, face trim, and site tolerances are not included.

Visible arithmetic

bay opening = [overall width − ((bay count + 1) × thickness)] ÷ bay count

The equal-bay model uses one more full-height upright than the number of bays, plus a top, bottom, and the selected loose shelves in each bay. Scribe fillers, bases, backs, hanging rails, face trim, and site tolerances are not included.

Use the generated rectangles as a transparent starting point. The layout does not replace a construction drawing, hardware specification, load calculation, or safe cutting procedure.

Before material purchase

Checks the calculator cannot make from dimensions alone

  1. Measure the wall at several heights and reserve scribe fillers.
  2. Check that full-height uprights fit through the room and onto the sheet.
  3. Confirm shelf-pin clearance and edge banding before final sizing.
  4. Model backs, drawers, hanging rods, and fixed joinery separately.
