Cross-cabinet parts use a 28 1/2-inch clear span. The shelves reduce that by 1/8 inch and remain 3/8 inch shallower than the box.

Changing width affects four of the six rectangles.
The two cabinet sides remain 30 × 11 1/4 inches. The top and bottom expand to 30 − (2 × 3/4) = 28 1/2 inches across, and each shelf becomes 28 3/8 inches after width clearance.
The wider shelves also increase the unsupported span. Confirm expected load and material stiffness, and decide whether a fixed shelf, face-frame rail, or thicker shelf is part of the real design.

- Verify shelf stiffness for the expected contents.
- Specify the wall attachment before finalizing the back and rails.
- Confirm door overlay and hinge clearance.
- Group any 1/4-inch back separately from the 3/4-inch carcass.
