This 24-inch-wide wall-cabinet example isolates the six 3/4-inch plywood carcass parts: two sides, a top, a bottom, and two adjustable shelves. The separate back and hanging method are deliberately excluded because their thickness and joinery change from shop to shop.

Six carcass parts use well under half a sheet

The solver places every listed rectangle on one 48 × 96 sheet at 36.2% finished-part yield. That makes this a useful companion for another same-thickness project, but only after the second project is entered into the same optimization run.

The top and bottom span the 22 1/2-inch opening. The shelf is 22 3/8 inches across and 10 7/8 inches deep to provide modest clearance.

Separate the box from the mounting system.

The captured top and bottom use 24 − (2 × 3/4) = 22 1/2 inches. The side depth is 11 1/4 inches in this sample, so it should not be silently substituted into a drawing that calls for a nominal 12-inch finished depth.

A full back in a rabbet, a planted-on back, and hanging rails all alter dimensions and load paths differently. Decide that system first and add its parts as a separate material group if it uses a different thickness.

  2. Choose and engineer the hanging method for the wall and load.
  3. Confirm finished depth, door overlay, and face-frame choice.
  4. Keep thinner back material in a separate optimizer run.
